“It is our choices, Harry, that show us who we truly are, far more than our abilities.
“You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart“
“You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true,
And unafraid of toil“
“Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you’ve a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind.“
“Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You’ll make your real friends,
Those cunning folk use any means,
To achieve their ends.“
“We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.”
Harry Potter will always be a favorite books [paper and audio as Jim Dale is awesome!] and movies…though I kind of hated the 5th -> Umbridge was horrible.
I’ve always secretly thought of them as Brave (Gryffindor), Other (Hufflepuff), Smart (Ravenclaw), Sneaky & Selfish (Slytherin). 🙂 Not my finest summation. 😐
However, each house has valuable traits…perhaps better to have all of them…like checks and balances…
Bravery and daring balanced with patience.
Lest one become reckless.
Ambition balanced with hard work and perhaps chivalry.
Lest one become shady and dishonest as means to an end.
Cunning with loyalty and fair play.
Evasive only as needed for the greater good and not selfish ends.
Resourcefulness with wit.
One seems to require the other.
Intelligence with hard work.
Sometimes, it is easy to rest on ones laurels [being satisfied with past distinctions] instead of doing their best…
Knowledge with nerve.
What good is information if one is too scared to act on it?
To have all is to be balanced, in my humble opinion.
One can find inspiration for improved living anywhere. 🙂
